Situated on the edge of the beautiful village of Alstonefield within the Peak District National Park, The Old Shippon lies behind the owners’ property, with extensive hill views in all directions and footpaths that begin as you step out of the front gate.

In its earlier life, the cottage has been both an antique shop and a barn (a ‘shippon’ is an old English word for a cattle barn). Dating back to the mid-19c, it’s now a cosy retreat, offering:

Driveway parking next to the cottage
Private garden area and access to owners’ garden/seating areas
Good Wifi (approx 20 Mbps)
HDR Smart TV with Freeview and Netflix (no sign-in required)
Cycles for guest use (no charge) or secure cycle storage if bringing your own
Central heating throughout
Double bedroom with beautiful views to the garden and beyond
Well-equipped kitchen with dining area overlooking the garden
Comfortable lounge, with wood-burner for those cosy nights in
Bathroom/WC with electric shower
Bed linen, towels and toiletries all supplied
A range of indoor games and books

On arrival, guests are treated to a ‘welcome pack’ such as fresh scones, home-made jam and milk in the fridge. Some additional frozen, dry or tinned food items are also available on an 'honesty box' basis.

For walkers, the Manifold Valley, Milldale and the much-loved stepping stones at Dovedale are nearby. There are several pubs within easy reach, all offering good food and real ales (these may be offering takeaway-only service during the COVID-19 pandemic).
